The Project: Reimagining a Dilapidated Space

This project in central Edinburgh presented a classic challenge: transforming a highly neglected room in a traditional tenement flat. The initial phase, captured in the first set of images, involved the messy but essential task of stripping multiple layers of old wallpaper and paint, revealing severely damaged and uneven plasterwork beneath.
To achieve the modern, clean finish our client desired, a simple paint job was not enough. Our core focus was on extensive surface preparation to lay the foundation for a flawless result.

Our Meticulous Process (Scope of Work)
Our team executed a detailed multi-stage renovation process to guarantee the longevity and quality of the finish:

• Intensive Demolition: Complete removal of all aged and unstable wall coverings, clearing the room down to the original substrate.
• Crucial Plasterwork: Full wall and ceiling skimming was performed across the entire room. This critical step involved applying fresh plaster to create a perfectly smooth, level surface, essential for a high-end paint finish.
• Precision Preparation: The newly plastered surfaces were meticulously sanded and treated with specialist primers to ensure optimal adhesion and durability.
• Ceiling & Walls: Application of three coats of premium Matt Emulsion paint in a contemporary, neutral palette (e.g., pale grey/off-white) to maximize natural light and visually expand the high-ceilinged room.
• Woodwork Finishing: All original features, including the skirting boards, door frames, and window sills, were prepared, filled, and finished with a durable Satin or Gloss paint.
• Final Touch: Careful restoration of the exposed timber flooring, complementing the new, bright wall colours.

The Result: A Masterclass in Clean Finish

The final images showcase a complete transformation. The room is now characterized by smooth, pristine walls and ceilings, reflecting high levels of craftsmanship. This level of finish is attainable only through comprehensive preparation and skimming, turning a worn-out room into a stunning, contemporary living space ready for its next century.
